How To Manage It

Your guide to coping with cancer – before, during and after the treatment journey

What is gastrointestinal cancer?

Any cancer that starts in the organs and tissues of the human digestive system is called gastrointestinal cancer, or cancer of the digestive system. These organs include the oesophagus, gallbladder, pancreas, liver, bile duct, stomach, intestines, rectum and anus.

While both men and women are at some risk of developing one of the types of gastrointestinal cancers, the risk normally increases with age. As with most cancers, early detection and diagnosis helps provide more effective treatment, while improving survival odds.
